According to the Law on federal ministries and other bodies of the federal administration from 2006, reorganization of the federal ministries was performed. Since then Federal ministry of Physical Planning have been organized in current structure, prior to this department of environment operated within the organization of the Ministry. 

Today, ministry is focused on primary activities related to spatial planning in Federation, land utilization on federal level, long term planning of natural resources exploitation, and on preservation and protection of national monuments and areas of outstanding natural, architectural and cultural historic significance.

Amount of 14, 25 millions of KM is provided; by the budget of the Federal Government for 2008; for the function of the Ministry, whereof 2.1 millions will be used for the operating of the Ministry, 6.39 millions for co financing various projects of the cantons and local communities related to cultural and architectural heritage protection, and 5 millions for the Spatial Plan of FB&H and for the spatial plans for the areas of special significance for the FB&H.
